1st LIS Academy Conference

The inaugural LIS Academy Conference marked a significant milestone as the organization celebrated its first foundation day. In partnership with the Department of Public Libraries, Government of Karnataka, LIS Academy proudly hosted the 6th National Conference of the Institute of Scientometrics (IOS). The event recognized the global significance of information and knowledge as shared resources essential for the advancement of education, science, culture, communication, empowerment, and the promotion of cultural diversity.Embracing UNESCO's slogan, "Information for All," the conference underscored the vital role that public libraries play in promoting universal access to information.

This gathering served as a dynamic platform for professionals to engage in discussions, deliberations, and interactions on various facets of enhancing information usage within public libraries. Topics ranged from metrics and technologies to data visualization tools, all geared toward facilitating the effective dissemination and utilization of information resources. The conference attracted a diverse array of participants, including professionals from academic, special, and public libraries. In addition to the insightful contributed papers presented by experienced professionals, the conference aimed to foster growth within the library community by inviting contributions from expert peers. This inclusive approach aimed to assist emerging library professionals in honing their skills in crafting and presenting their ideas effectively within the conference setting. In summary, the inaugural LIS Academy Conference, held in collaboration with the Department of Public Libraries, Government of Karnataka, symbolized a commitment to promoting universal access to information and knowledge. It provided a valuable platform for professionals to exchange ideas, share best practices, and empower the library community, all in alignment with the noble goals of advancing education, culture, and open governance through the dissemination of information for the benefit of all.
The 6th National conference of the Institute of Scientometrics and the First LIS Academy Annual Conference on ‘Information for All’ was organized jointly by Department of Public Libraries, RRRLF, Kolkata and LIS Academy, Bangalore from 21-23, December 2017. The Inaugural function was graced by Dr. P Y Rajendra Kumar, Former Director General, National Library, Kolkata as Chief guest and Prof. T. D. Kemparaju, Vice Chancellor, Bangalore North University, Kolar as President of the occasion along with the other Degnitories on the Dais viz, Prof I K Ravichandra Rao,Key Note Speaker, Dr.S.L.Sangam Conference Chair, Dr. Satish Hosamani Conference Organizing Secretory, Prof. PV Konnur, Organizing Secretory, Dr. Ananda T. Byrappa Conference Director and Prof. P Padhi, Rapporteur General. The Inaugural Function was started with an invocation and kick started by lighting the auspicious lamp with traditional customs by the dignitaries. Prof. P V Konnur, organizing secretary welcomed the gathering and highlighted the theme of the Conference. Prof. S. L. Sangam, (Conference chair) introduced the Institute of Scientometrics, its origin, establishment, development, activities and also briefed about the developments in the area of Scientometrics and other sub themes of the conference. Prof. S. L Sangam highlighted the relevance of sub themes, Infographics, social media and public libraries in context to scientometrics which facilitates in disseminating Information to All. Prof. T D Kemparaj, Dr. P Y Rajendra Kumar, were awarded Life time achievement award by LIS Academy and Dr. Ananda T. Byrappa was awarded LIS Academy Fellow. Prof. I K Ravichandra Rao gave key note talk and dignitaries addressed conference delegates and gave a call to use of this wonderful platform to enrich their knowledge. 250 delegates participated in the conference and 42 papers were presented. Prior to the inauguration, 3 tutorials were organized for the benefit of participants. First tutorial was delivered by Dr. Jayashree on stress management for Librarians, she emphasized the need of stress management in present days to be more productive in both professional and personal life. Second tutorial was on Book metrics by Mr. Kumareson Director Marketing (India), M/s.SpringerNature who highlighted the latest developments in metrics of e-books usage. Third tutorial was delivered by Mr. Shivaram B S on one of the conference sub theme Infographics, he demonstrated various tools to create Infographics.

The session was chaired by Dr. Tapaswi and Dr. Satish Monuli was the rapporteur. Seven papers were presented along with two theme papers by Dr. Snehanshu saha and Dr, Sumit Bhattachary. The session on Scietometrics discussed on Credible metrics of Scholastic Evidence using Recursive referessing and machine learning; International collaboration changing contour of science in the 21st century, collaboration on Nanotechnology research; Scietometric analysis of Swin flu research; Research productivity of Science academics reflected in google scholar, web citation analysis ; scietometric portrait of Rakesh Bhatnagar, evolution of engineering college web sites; indicator growth Vs Obsolescence poliomyelitis Literature

The session was chaired Dr. Maltesh Motebennur and Smt. Savita Naik was the rapporteur. Seven papers were presented along with one theme paper by Dr. Tapaswi on Ranking of universities and institutions open opportunities for Scientometrics and Information professionals. Interesting presentations made by the authors on applications, mapping S & T Indicators Bradford’ law; Scientometrics study of Nobel laureate George E Smith; Scientometric Portrait of Prof. Anurag Kumar; Measurement of research productivity in Science and engineering through metrics; Small world author community; Indian Currency demonetization a webometric study

The session was chaired by Prof. VM Bankapur and Mr. Raghavendra KV was the rapporteur. Three papers were presented along with 2 theme papers by Dr. SM Pujar and Dr. Vijaya kumar on Altmetrics on Altmetrics! A study of top 100 articles on altmetrics and an analysis of research trends in central universities of Rajasthan. Papers presented on collaboration pattern of the scientist, agriculture scientific output and its relationship to GDP; Measurement of research productivity of Agricultural and biological sciences and experimenting google fusion table.

The session was chaired by Dr. K T Santhosh Kumar and Mrs. Vinutha S was the rapporteur. Two papers were presented along with two invited talks by Dr. Siddamallaih and Mr. Madhuresh Singhal on Scietometrics to Infographics and Infographics for Info centers respectively. Seven posters presentations were also presented and exhibited the Infographics submitted for the National level Infographics competition.

The session was chaired by Prof. BS Biradar and Smt. Bharaati Tubachi was the rapporteur. Prof. Pitambar Padhi , Dr. VM Bankapur and Dr. Kunni Krishnan delivered theme papers on social responsibility of public libraries and Connecting people through public libraries.

The session was chaired by Mr. SR Dey and Dr. N Mohan was the rapporteur. Five papers were presented in this session along with two theme papers by Dr. Rajendra babu and Dr. Maltesh Motebennur on Social media as learning, teaching , research and Agriculture information system. Authors presented five papers on use of social networking tools for libraries, Open courseware initiatives, analysis of impact of social networking sites; use of ICT as a tool to enhance children’s creativity, and user friendly best practices.
